Susan and her husband own and run their family winery Idell Vineyards in Sonoma, California. They are grape growers, selling their grapes to top wineries as well as making wine for themselves. Susan oversees the operations of the business. Prior to the wine industry, Susan worked for many years in San Francisco as a social gerontologist and aging consultant, for both a major university and for two large nonprofits. The past ten years Susan has focused on transitioning to organic farming, wine production, wine philanthropy, and volunteerism. Susan loves food, wine and almost all chocolate. Susan’s interest in food likely started well before she was born, when her grandfather had bakeries in Brooklyn, beginning in the 1930’s and her grandmother was a professional cook in the Borscht Belt. Food is in her blood and that definitely helped her transition to full time farmer and wine producer. Susan is also an avid fly fisherwoman and is always looking for women who like to fish!
